WRC Spring 2021 Facility Hours (PDF)

We have enhanced our cleaning and sanitation protocols to include the following:

Masks are required to be worn in all common areas of the WRC (hallways, classrooms, lounges, restrooms, climbing wall, free weight room, fitness area, basketball courts, PPC, etc).  Masks are not expected while swimming in the lap or leisure pools.

All five entrances to the WRC will have hand sanitizing stations.  Please use them upon entering and exiting the WRC and wash hands frequently while in the building.

All WRC staff will be wearing masks and service desks will have plexiglass sneeze guards, touch free id scanning and contactless payment readers.

Fitness Area and Free Weight Room equipment will be cleaned often.  Patrons utilizing these areas will also receive a cleaning hand towel to use after using a piece of equipment.  This towel should be placed in the laundry bin at the top of the stairs upon departure.  Machines will be offline for 5 minutes after cleaning to allow the cleaning product to dry.

Fitness Center staff will help patrons with understanding the enhanced cleaning plan and will be cleaning equipment as well.

New capacities in all areas of the WRC will be in place.  For example, the lap pool has a capacity of 16 swimmers, the leisure pool is 22 users, the fitness area is 40 users, the free weight room is 25 users, and the north gym is 2 individuals per basket.

  • The lap pool will be organized with the first eight swimmers picking a lane in the shallow end.  The following eight swimmers will start in the deep end.  Swimmers time will be held to 45 minutes if additional swimmers arrive.  Additionally, swimmers will be asked to wait under the balcony for an open lane and maintain a 6 foot social distance while waiting.

  • The leisure pool has a capacity of 22 users.  Swimmers time will be held to 45 minutes if more than 22 people arrive to use the pool.

  • The fitness area/ track users time will be held to 45 minutes if more than 40 people arrive to use the fitness area and track.

  • The free weight room users time will be held to 45 minutes if more than 25 people arrive to use the free weight room.

  • The north gym is available for individual shoot around, however game play is not available due to the inability to social distance.

Available ancillary services include:

  • Health Beat

  • Health Beat locker rooms

  • Towel services

  • WRC locker rooms

  • Equipment checkout

The following ancillary services are not available:

  • WRC locker rentals

  • Saunas

  • Leisure pool hot tub

We are excited to welcome members back the WRC and look forward to seeing you.  We need your help in following the protocols above so that we can continue to provide a safe and fun environment for you.  We will continue to monitor the Center for Disease Control (CDC), Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) and Black Hawk County Health (BHCH) guidelines and re- open additional facilities and programs when approved to do so.

Please contact us at recreationservices@uni.edu if you have questions.
