Our climbing certifications and special events allow users to test their skills while progressing through structured challenges. These experiences build confidence, foster community, and inspire climbers to push their limits in a supportive environment.

Clinics

UNI Outdoors Clinics offers a variety of educational workshops ranging from belay clinics to canoe clinics! Clinic offerings vary from semester to semester and are available to students, faculty, and community members. Current clinic offerings can be found below.

Interested in learning how to belay? Sign up for one of our belay clinics! We will teach you how to properly belay, tie knots, and use other safety equipment at the climbing wall. We offer both top rope belay clinics and lead belay clinics.

Interested in clinics not currently offered? We can accommodate personalized clinics such as canoe clinics, log rolling clinics, kayak rolling clinics, and MORE! Contact our office for pricing. Personalized clinics MUST have a minimum number of 4 people.


Clinic Offerings

Lead Climbing Clinic

If you are ready to take the next step in climbing, sign up to learn how to lead climb at the UNI climbing wall. Our hands-on clinic will teach you what you need to know to become lead climbing certified at the wall. This clinic covers the use of quick-draws, clipping techniques, and the proper belay techniques used in lead climbing. Individuals interested should be able to climb at least a 5.9 comfortably and be able to do multiple laps on North Face without resting. *You must be top rope belay certified to take this clinic*

Top Rope Belay Clinic

Learn the basics of climbing gear, safety, and belaying on UNI's climbing wall. Our hands-on clinic is designed to teach you everything you need to know to become belay certified on the UNI climbing wall. Along with proper belaying techniques, this clinic covers the use of knots, belay devices, and other safety equipment. Additional times can be arranged for groups of 2-4.

UNI Outdoors hosts annual climbing competitions for all levels of climbers. Whether you are a beginner or advanced climber, our climbing competitions offers a fun experience for everyone. Don’t miss out on awesome opportunity!


Competition Offerings


Rock Revolution

Held annually in February, UNI's annual climbing competition is always a party! Rock Revolution is a friendly and fun spirited top rope competition open to climbers of all skill levels. This event will challenge you and leave you exhilarated.

Late Registrations: Those registering day of must do so on-site no later than 7:15am in order to get a climb time.

Boulder Bash

Held each November, UNI's annual bouldering competition is an experience to celebrate. Boulder Bash is a friendly and fun spirited competition open to climbers of all skill levels. This event will challenge you and leave you exhausted yet exhilarated by the end. Don't miss the fun!

Late Registrations: Those registering day of must do so on-site no later than 11:15am in order to get a climb time.

Events

UNI Outdoors offers a number of events on campus throughout the entire academic year. Make some new friends while making a s’more, cross-country skiing around the ponds, playing broomball, slacklining and more!


Broomball

Test your balance and coordination with a game of broomball on the WRC pond! An exciting game much like hockey but without the skates! All brooms, balls and helmets will be provided to the players. It is highly recommended to come wearing knee pads or extra bottom layers for potential falls on ice.


Cross Country Ski Nights

Spend some time with UNI Outdoors while cross-country skiing on our freshly groomed west campus recreation trail! Snow permitting, we will meet in the outdoor recreation office WRC 174 to gear up and head out to the trails. Skis, boots and headlamps are provided, and if you bring your own personal mug hot chocolate will be provided. No experience is necessary, but be sure to dress for the weather!
