Our competitive sports programs are designed to give participants the ability to compete in various activities at any level. They range from highly competitive to more casual and recreational. Check out what’s available and give one a try!
Intramural Sports
Intramurals are leagues or tournaments set up for students to compete against other UNI students, usually for a coveted Intramural Champion T-Shirt. The time commitment is typically one day of practice per week for 5-6 weeks.
Sport Clubs
A Sport Club is a registered student organization that recruits members, practices, schedules contests, fundraises, and competes against other colleges/universities in the same discipline. The time commitment is typically for the entire semester or academic year.

- Choose an event.
- Create a team or join a team.

- Identify a league and division and click the + in the bottom right corner.
- Click “Create a Team”.
- Create a name, upload an image and include a description. You can play on the team or be designated “manager” if not playing.
- Once created, share team invites. If the league you signed up for has roster requirements, your team will be “pending” until requirements are met.

Sport Clubs
Sport Clubs are registered student organizations that practice weekly and travel and compete against other schools in the region, some with opportunities to compete at a national level. They are designed for continued competition in a designated sport or activity ranging from casual to competitive. A valid UNI ID must also be presented to officials for participation in intramural events.

- Who can join?
Intramurals: Any full-time, fee paying student, faculty/staff, or alumni with an active annual WRC membership is eligible to play.
Sport Clubs: Membership is open to all UNI students. UNI faculty/staff, as well as Hawkeye Community College and Allen College students living on campus can participate in some sport clubs with limited eligibility requirements (please contact the Sport Club coordinator for further details).
- What is the cost to join?
Intramurals: A $20 play pass each semester provides access to all intramural activities and events.
Sport Clubs: Membership dues and fees vary for each sport club. Some clubs do not collect any dues. Higher dues can be expected for sport clubs that require a lot of equipment, special facilities and frequent travel. Many clubs will do fundraisers or may receive sponsorships from local businesses and agencies to help reduce out-of-pocket expenses for members.
- How are competitive sports funded?
Intramurals: Through a combination of intramural play pass purchases and student recreation fees.
Sport Clubs: Student recreation fees, club dues or membership fees, fundraising, sponsorships and donations.
