The Fitness Area has a large variety of cardio equipment and Magnum weight training equipment. Highlighted cardio equipment includes Pre Cor, Life Fitness and Sci Fit treadmills, ellipticals, recumbent and upright bikes, steppers and rowing machines. Space is provided for core strength warm up, cool down, and dumb bell use.
The WRC Fitness Area is a 7,000 sq foot weight training and cardiovascular work out facility which also has a 3 lane jogging track. Visitors to this area will find spectacular views of central and east campus, competitive pool, leisure pool, climbing wall area, racquetball courts and the north gymnasium.
The leisure pool is a 2500 sq foot pool which highlights a zero depth entry, spa, bubble couch and water slide. Visitors to this area will also find equipment for water volleyball and basketball. This (8) lane 25 yard pool is the home of academic classes, open recreation lap swim, Swimming and Diving and the Paddling Panther Learn to Swim Program.
Visitors to this pool will find (2) 1 meter and (2) 3 meter diving boards, a full service scuba locker and a 300 seat spectator area for swim meets.
Renovated in 2007, the (8) outdoor tennis courts are located to the east of the WRC and adjacent to Bender Hall and the
Bender Field. There are no advance reservations for use of these courts.
However, the School of Health, Physical Education and Leisure Services and Tennis Sport Club have priority use of the courts during the academic year.
All (6) Racquetball/Wallyball Courts courts are found on the lower level of the WRC.
Reservations for use of these courts can be made by calling the front desk at (319) 273-2413. Reservations can be made up to 24 hours in advance.
The 38.5 ft vertical climbing wall is one of the largest indoor climbing wall on a college campus
in the upper Midwest. The wall area is unique in design as it is visually accessible from multiple areas of the WRC
and is the center piece of the facility. Visitors to this area will find (11) belay stations, over 3000 hand/ foot holds

The newly renovated Wellness/Recreation Center (WRC) Free Weight Room is located on the first floor of the WRC room 153. This 4,800 square foot layout includes a variety of Power Lift and Cybex weight equipment including four (4) power racks with lever action benches, a Smith machine, Cybex weight machines, a dumbbell area with sets going up to 100 pounds, preacher curl benches and much more!
The room’s décor and ambiance is inviting to all weight training enthusiasts from novice to the more experienced. The room has very user-friendly equipment and abundant operational hours. Come and experience this new state-of-the-art weight training facility.
It should be noted that neither chalk nor colored liquids are allowed in this room. Water in plastic containers is fine. Additional safety signage is posted. So once you swipe your UID at the supervisor’s desk you’ll be ready to begin your fitness adventure in this dynamic new facility.

The WRC has three multi purpose studios used for academic classes, fitness
programming and sport clubs.
Aerobics & Dance Studios
- Studio 85 is used as a general fitness studio and is also programmed for spin classes. This room houses (21) Schwinn spin bikes.
- Room 87 is known as the CORE room and is typically programmed for ball work outs focusing on an individual’s core body strength.
- Studio 176 is typically is known as the combatant room and is typically programmed for self defense classes and martial arts.
The WRC houses 10 courts in two areas of the building.
The north gym includes 2 basketball/ volleyball courts which is also equipped for badminton and indoor tennis. Rentals of this facility can be made by filling out the RS Facilities Request form or by contacting Luke Bartlett at (319) 273-4768.
The south gyms are partitioned into three courts spaces.
- Gym 256 is equipped with 2 basketball/ volleyball courts and indoor soccer.
- Gym 258 is equipped with 2 basketball/ volleyball courts, badminton and indoor soccer.
- Gym 266 is a 4 court space equipped for basketball, volleyball, badminton and indoor soccer.
All four gymnasium spaces are equipped with glass backboards and break away rims. All courts are also equipped with Sport Import volleyball equipment including officials stands.
Gyms 266, 258 and 256 are also equipped with Kwik Goal indoor soccer equipment with the potential for accommodating 4 indoor soccer games simultaneously.
