FAQ - Sport Clubs

Who can be a member of UNI Sport Club?

Membership in the UNI Sport Club Program is open to all students of the University of Northern Iowa. UNI faculty and staff, as well as on-campus Hawkeye Community College and Allen College of Nursing students can participate in some sport clubs with limited eligibility requirements (please contact the Sport Club Coordinator for further details).

How do I join a UNI Sport Club?

To join a sport club, click on the sport club logo for more information about each sport club at UNI to submit your interest in any one of the UNI Sport Clubs.

How much does it cost to join a club?

Membership dues and fees vary for each sport club. Higher dues can be expected for sport clubs that require a lot of equipment, special facilities, and plan to travel frequently. Some clubs do not collect any dues. Sport Clubs will do fundraisers or may receive sponsorships from local businesses and agencies to help reduce out of pocket expenses for members.

How are the sport clubs funded?

Sport clubs are funded through the following means:
• Student Activity fees
• Club fundraising projects
• Club dues or membership fees
• Sponsorships or donations.

Do I have to be an expert player to join a sport club?

No. There is no minimum athletic skill level required for participation. Many clubs recruit beginners and teach them the basics of a new sport.

How do I start a new club?

Any student may form a new sport club if they can find sufficient student interest/participation in the sport or activity. There are several factors to take into consideration when forming a new sport club such as gaining interest, start-up costs, practice location, etc. A sport club must have a student officers and a UNI Faculty/Staff Member as an Adviser.

You may begin the process of starting a new club by submitting a UNI Sport Club Creator Form and setting up a meeting the UNI Sport Club Coordinator.

If there is an accommodation you need in order to participate in a RS program or activity, please contact WRC 101 at (319) 273-6275.
