UNI Outdoors Land Acknowledgement
In our time together at the University of Northern Iowa we are gathered on the unceded land of the Iowa, Sauk and Meskwaki, Wahpeton, and Očeti Šakówiŋ (Sioux) peoples. We ask you to join us in acknowledging the Iowa, Sauk and Meskwaki, Wahpeton, and Očeti Šakówiŋ (Sioux) communities, their elders past and present, as well as future generations. We acknowledge that the outdoor recreation industry often excludes, ignores, and mistreats indigenous peoples and their lands, including those on the land we utilize for our trips and clinics. We also acknowledge that our institution of higher learning was founded upon the exclusion and erasure of many indigenous peoples, including those on whose land our institution sits. This acknowledgment demonstrates our commitment to beginning the process of working to dismantle the ongoing legacies of settler colonialism.
Students interested in trips or becoming more involved in the UNI Outdoors program should contact UNI Outdoors at (319) 273-7163 or email us at email@example.com. No previous experience is necessary for our trips and programs. Anyone can enjoy the great outdoors and is encouraged to take advantage of this recreational resource. Let UNI Outdoors help you get outside!
Become a UNI Outdoors Trip Coordinator
All UNI Outdoors trips are based on the “common adventurer” philosophy. This philosophy holds that the foremost goal of any common adventure is to achieve an enjoyable and worthwhile experience while displaying the greatest respect for the natural environment. We are looking for individuals who seek to build their leadership, communication, collaboration, and outdoor skills to serve as leaders for our trips program.
